Catch As Catch Can
It’s not the BIG successes that get you thru the hard times, it’s the little things – like a simple game of catch.
John Skucanec is a big baseball fan out in Seattle. As he was out with his son playing catch one day he realized that was the thing he loved most. Just playing catch. So he decided “I wanna do this every single day for a year!” So the next day he & his son were back. Then Day 3. Then Day 4, and over time, people started to find out about his little journey.
A local newspaper covered it – and he started to get more partners. The guy that delivered his sandwich – a baseball coach down in Oregon – former Major League pitcher Jamie Moyer – & NFL QB Russell Wilson. and it didn’t end there.
With each passing month, more and more people started contacting John wanting to play catch. Until it was Day 365. The Seattle Mariners contacted John and said “You should end this quest out at the ballpark” – So he put the family in the car and drove out to SafeCo Field – Where Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr was waiting with his glove and a signed ball.
John Scukanec didn’t set out to break records or meet famous people – he simply realized his love for playing catch with his son – and God used that to open doors.
