Let’s Catch Up ~ Week of February 23, 2025
This week, I found some sweet love stories, some from a 68-year-old married couple and one that included a sweet proposal via 14 letters. Both give great ideas for keeping relationships thriving. I also have some fun date ideas!
Long time love & a song a night - Don and Marilyn are in their early 90s but act like a couple of teenagers in love. Why? They’ve practiced some sweet things and a fave, Don serenades Marilyn at bedtime! The songs change from day to day but they are all so super sweet! Don shared he started singing to Marilyn about 50 years ago and not a night goes by that he doesn’t sing to her. Even when she was in the hospital, he showed up to sing! You can read all about it here: The secret behind 68 years of wedded bliss
When you know you know the proposal by the letter - After dating for six months, Ian knew he wanted to marry Jessica, and he put the work in for his proposal. Spelling out the big question over three years and 14 love letters! Each one had a prominent letter that when the letters were sorted in the right order spelled out Will You Marry Me. Ian even made a copy of each letter so he could present the whole slew together all framed up for the big moment. After first handing her the final letter signed love your fiancé Ian. When Jessica looked up, he was on bended knee. Here’s the story: Proposing one letter at a time
Looking for some fun things to do with your significant other? Some date ideas.
Clay date. Pottery date nights are great IF you can find one near you, but you can do them at home, too. A couple started a clay date night at home. They picked up some clay projects and worked on them together to see how close they could match the inspiration. SO seriously cute! The Question game. Okay, I love this one. I bring a handful of cards from a literal question game or make some up with sticky notes (plenty of questions can be found online). Take your honey out to eat, and during the drive and meal break, ask the questions. Focus on the Family has some questions you can use here: Quirky Questions for Couples
Library dates. Go on the cheap and head to the library to pick out a couple of DVDs to watch together. When the weather is good, maybe pick some seeds up if your library offers free seeds (many do) and start your own mini garden together.
Flip a coin day trip. I have not done this, but some people have done day trips, and when they get to their location, they flip a coin at every intersection to pick their stop for a meal. It could be a really fun way to explore a town. Just try to find your central hub first.
Thrift Store Date. I love the idea of combining fun with doing something good for charity. Go to a thrift store and pick out some seriously awkward clothes. If you are feeling extra daring let your significant other pick yours and you pick theirs! Wash them up, put them on and create silly personas and hit the road for some fun!
